Flair Stream
Before I began my internship I was certain that Marketing is what I would like to pursue as a career, so I interned with Flair Stream, a marketing company based in Austin Texas. Flair Stream uses air streams for pop up stores and other special events; corporate events, music festivals, mobile marketing, trade shows, green rooms, you name it. My mentor Mrs Renee Sakos and her business partner Jill own this company, they purchase these air streams and redecorate the interior. These two have five vintage air streams that are active. When their clients book the air streams, they are customized to suit the desired interior for the brand the client is marketing. For the duration of my internship we worked with Kendra Scott, a jewelry company.
Link Anticipation and Preparation
My first step was to decide what I wanted to do, which is marketing. For my internship, I originally wanted to be based in Denver, so I did not give myself much room to have other options. My search for LINK began by sending emails to companies I had researched on, most of them were based in Denver. Most of the time it was frustrating because the companies I really wanted to work with couldn't accept high school interns because of company policies, especially for such a short period of time. The rest of the companies I contacted hardly even bothered to respond to my emails.I went to a gathering with my host parents and their workmates. One of their friends ended up being my mentor, I told her about LINK and how it works and she offered me an internship. That's how I ended up in Austin.
I chose to work at Flair Stream because it sounded like it was an amazing opportunity to learn how to run a business, I would like to own a marketing company someday. It would also be insightful to see how the day today contact runs with clients,I had hope that from this Internship I would know if this is the career path I want to take. I hope that I can bring my energy to the work place along with my ideas. I hope to be the best Intern they have ever had and will ever have.

LINK Reflection
My internship often required long hours and ten hour days, especially during the week we traveled to New York. Being flexible worked well with this kind of schedule. We had two events in New York and we were in thecity for a week. So most of our time in New York was taken by the amount of time it takes to transport the Air stream back and forth, from the different venues to the parking garage we had booked. It was difficult to transport the air-stream from one place to the other, it required a lot of patience. The event business is often full of unplanned events, like for example a couple of days before we traveled to New York for our events, the agency that was giving us a parking permit for the air stream told us that it was going to be an extra ten thousand dollars to sell out of the air steam. So from this I learnt to keep my cool even in unexpected situations.
My mentor taught me a lot about client care, like we would show up to the event locations and help unpack everything for the girls from Kendra Scott girls before they got there, just to lighten their load. So I learnt to always go the extra mile for my clients in the future, especially if they are loyal and consistent. My mentor is also a perfectionist which isn't a bad thing, in the event business you want everything to look presentable for your businesses brand and your customers as well. Being responsive is an important part of any business, this lets your customers know that they are your priority and it indicates that you are on top of things and take their business seriously. Having good communication skills will help in the long and short run,to book clients and to keep them as clients.
While I was on my internship I never hesitated to ask questions especially since I intend to be a business owner myself, i would ask for advice about large workplace environments. Before Reni ,my mentor started this business she worked at a large insurance company. So I never hesitated to ask about her work environment there because I have to work somewhere else before I start my business, she was very insightful about working with difficult people, unresponsive people or just generally people that don't appreciate you. For example now her business partner is Jill whom is also her friend, her advice for me was not to go into business with your friends because if you disagree on certain decisions, which you will, you have o work twice as hard to keep things professional and non-hostile between you as friends or family.
My mentor was very helpful because she kept involved, she always let me know what negotiations were happening between her and the client, she would correct me if I was wrong. For example I was late my second day and she gave me a list of rules, or options i could take to be more graceful. I think represented Animas well and so I'm certain my mentor would be willing to mentor another AHS student in the future. This internship has helped me a lot because now I know for sure that I would want to go into Marketing.
